The print above dated 1845 is of the Norman tower and was taken from an old church guide book. Notice the wooden chancel door which is now blocked up and the sundial on the right hand buttress of the tower.

Lowry was a regular visitor to Tyneside and used to stay at the Marriott Hotel in Seaburn. He visited Jarrow quite often on his visits and did this drawing of St. Paul's in 1964.

This painting at high tide makes the monastery seem almost surrounded by water. In the Slake recess in the distance to the left of the painting can be seen the four main chimneys of Jarrow Alkali Works. The painting which is oil on canvas is by the Victorian Scottish artist Joseph Mc.Intyre, and dated at 1850.

The above drawing of St.Paul's chancel is dated at 1891, but is unsigned. The attention to detail can be appreciated when it is compared to the early 20th. century photograph taken from a similar location. Both images are produced by kind permission of Archivist, Norman Dunn.
THE ANGELS EXHIBITION ~ took place inside St.Paul's church from 18th. May until 28th. September 2008. It featured the work of artist Celia Kilner from Holmfirth in North Yorkshire. The exhibition contained fifty angel scenes from around the world. Pictured below are e few of the exhibits.
