The Organ
The Organ
St Paul's church organ.
This was built by J.J. Binns of Bramley near Leeds in 1911 at a cost of £625. The money was raised by public subscription. The organ which was originally hand-operated, was fitted with an electric blower in 1937. By the mid 1990s it was beginning to show its age and a rebuild became a priority. It was completely rebuilt in 1997 by Harrison and Harrison Ltd. of Durham at a cost of more than £50,000. This money was all raised by special fund raising efforts and by many gemerous donations from individuals and trusts. The present organists are Syd Harrison and Fred Hemmer with more than 50 years and 30 years service respectively.
