Wood Carvings by Dr. Fenwick Lawson.
There are three wooden carvings inside St. Paul’s which are the work of local sculptor Dr. Fenwick Lawson.
The photograph above shows the imposing image of “The Risen Ascended Christ”. This impressive 9′ high carving which is suspended from the nave roof greets visitors when they enter the church building from the west porch. It is made from Poplar with arms and feet of Cherry.
The above carving of St. Bede is made of Elm and is situated under the tower arch.
The third of Fenwick Lawson’s carvings inside St. Paul’s is an image of “St. Michael and the Devil”. It is made of Oak and is situated on the north wall above the north porch door.
